History

In the summer months of 1999 I was riding my bike, on my own. There was no one to go to a Rally with, or no one just to out on a run with. I knew that in my home town of Castlederg there were lots of bikers but there was nothing to get everyone out on their bikes together. And this is when the idea came to me to start up a Club in the area to deal with the problem.

So with the help of a few biker friends, namely Ian Chambers, William Hayes and Eddie McSorley (none of whom are still active members), we set out to start up the first ever Motorcycle Club in this area.

First things first, we had to get a place to hold our meetings. That wasn't so difficult. Your local is always the first place to ask. I approached the owner of the then 'Micky Joes' (then the Punters' Inn) and gladly she had no reservations whatsoever in letting us use the premises.

The second thing we had to do was decide on a name for the Club. That wasn't as easy. We had loads of ideas, some good and some not so good. Friends of ours also gave us some good names, and again some of them were not so good.

After about five meetings and five nights drinking we managed to bring the massive numbers of 'would be' Club names down to just two. After asking everyone in the bar what their views were we just had to put it to a vote.

Trixxxters just had the edge over the other. This was just as well really, because the other name, as we found out later, was already in use.

Will you ever know what that name was?

Next thing we had to do was design a patch. A friend of mine gave us some great ideas, one of which involved playing cards and a dice. The logo just wasn't right though, we did however use the idea of the cards in the final design.

We had a lot of ideas on how our patch should look. Between us, somehow, we eventually put these ideas together and came up with our present patch - a skull, smoking a joint, wearing an open faced helmet with four aces spread across the side of it. The aces were put there to add a little bit of meaning behind the name TRIXXXTERS, (not spelt Tricksters of course - it helps confuse people). I suppose the 'XXX' indicates our sense of humour and behaviour from time to time. This was done for the fun of it, of course.

Having a place to hold our meetings, a club name and logo is fine but the next thing we needed was members. We advertised in bike shops and left flyers on bikes whilst on our travels. We had about ten people at our first meeting and the Club has just seemed to grow with commitment, dedication and numbers ever since. Our first meeting was held on the 9th of November 1999, and that is the date that Trixxxters MCC was born.
